Another round of fireworks. And not the good kind.
"Warriors, continue firing! Don't let up until the barrier is completely annihilated. This building will be our new capital in due time. We'll decorate the interior with the corpses of these inferior humans so that we may always recall our astounding victory when we claim this planet as our own!"
It came from the sky. Strange saucers of these alien invaders darkened the horizon of the Downtown district. They -- the Harmatites -- had arrived without warning, leaving many Heroes, leaders, and Aegis operatives scrambling to ready measures to protect not only Wayport City, but cities and countries across the globe.
But the Harmatites were particularly spiteful of this city, however. Solera, that damned woman. She’d called this place home.
They’d make sure it was the first area culled of the abhorrent presence of humans.
Bang after dreadful bang, Aegis Headquarters was struck with an array of plasma beams. Luckily for the civilians and Heroes nearby, the building and its surrounding vicinity was protected by a far-reaching forcefield that took the impact of the attacks. It was a marvel of technology and skilled engineering, but members of the defense department controlling it knew it could only handle so much damage. It was merely a means of stalling the invasion while Heroes made their way to the rescue.
”Fire again!”
Another bang. Blood-colored beams of energy shot out from a massive cannon mounted on one of the Harmatite’s main battle ships collide with Aegis’ teal barrier. They were minor, but fissures began to form across the multi-block wide shield.
It couldn’t take much more. Aid was needed, stat.
Desperate to halt the invasion, every and any available Hero had been called upon to protect citizens. They were transferred to where they were needed most -- Wayport City being one of the major priorities. Even Vigilantes were encouraged to join the frantic fight, despite Aegis’ overall attitude towards unregistered Supers.
One could only hope the calls would not go unanswered.
”Alright men! We’ve created quite some damage on the protective barrier. Spread your might outward. Foot-soldiers, disperse onto unprotected areas of the city! Airmen, strike down any human that moves on sight, and continue your efforts on the barrier!” One of these strange aliens spoke aloud. It looked slightly humanoid, with distinct, perhaps feminine, facial features. She had striking red horns, sharp teeth, snowy hair, and most prominently, many, many legs.
She called herself General Venus (it appeared as if naming oneself after celestial objects was common amongst Harmatite generals), and appeared to have quite a bit of control amongst her warriors. The spider-like Harmatite stepped out from a grounded vehicle and stood proudly. She crossed her arms and puffed out her chest, exuding quite a fearless aura.
Many Harmatite guards surrounded her from every direction, moving along with her every step.
”This is your last chance, Earthlings!” She shouted aloud. ”Surrender now and we may spare you… And turn you into servants, of course!”
Maniacally, Venus cackled at her own joke.
She wanted to watch these humans suffer.

Charlotte had to admit that she was quite annoyed. Here she was trying to run some diagnostic tests on a unknown sample of metahuman DNA she acquired from a field agent, but the literal heavens intervened to stop her. Though that was probably the wrong descriptor. It was more like little green men who came from the heavens, or something of the sort. Honestly by the time she saw hokey UFOs straight out of Roswell approaching the city, she had a feeling she'd have an eventful day. The explosions and tremors only served to further distract her from the important work that she was trying to do. Apparently Marvin the Martian had to be dealt with first.[break][break]
Its not that Charlotte disliked actually being a hero, she just had some other priorities on her mind. With a bit of a dejected sigh, she left her lab and entered the chaotic proceedings going on at Aegis Headquarters. It was fairly understandable all things considered, but it didn't make it any less annoying for Charlotte to do her job. She had to waltz her way around the whole facility to find one soldier's commanding officer, then that guy's superior, and so forth and so forth. Its not like she was asking for a lot. She just needed the barrier down a bit so she could actually leave the building. It didn't help that plenty of the people she needed to talk to just so happened to be panicking about the whole ordeal. After navigating the entire corporate structure of Aegis's operations and flexing her basic understanding of therapy, she finally managed to get someone to open the door for her.[break][break]
Upon stepping out into the warzone of Wayport's streets, Charlotte took a minute to take this all in. She stretched a bit, before letting out a bit of a yawn. While she knew she had quite the job to do, she wasn't going to go into this stupidly. In reality, she was attempting to scan the battlefield for just about any relevant info to the fight ahead. Of course, the most important thing on her mind was the location of civilians. She had to make sure none were around her, because she planned to just let loose. Once she knew it was safe, she began to properly enter the fray. As one would expect from Titania, her first job was simply to grow. And grow she did, shooting up to a massive one thousand feet tall like a rocket. Easily standing comfortably next to the building that she'd just left, it was safe to say that she fit right in with the skyscrapers all around her. [break][break]
"Attention all Martians! You made a grave mistake messing with my research. You runts can scamper off back to Mars peacefully, or I can toss you back there. Your choice!" her voiced boomed in a clearly standard and unoriginal diatribe. Of course, its not like she intended to actually give any solace to these invaders. Realistically, she just needed to draw their attention. Any laser beam fired at her was one less directed at Aegis Headquarters and all of the civilians being protected inside. Luckily, she was a pretty damn big target. "What's that? You want to resist? Well lets make this quick!" her colossal voice rang across the battlefield, sounding louder than any rock concert. With those words, she sprung into action. [break][break]
Her first attack was a hearty, earthquake-causing stomp delivered directly to a large clump of the bug sized aliens. She grinded her shoe a bit to make sure that she was really doing damage to them, not really caring about the destroyed pavement job under her feet. Alien invasions call for desperate measures after all, and its not like she planned to directly pay for this property damage. Beyond that, she decided that she wanted to aim higher. Looking at one of the flying saucers over the city, she got an idea. Casually approaching it and grabbing it like a frisbee, she could feel much of the metal creaking and snapping. Of course, the aliens inside were doing practically everything they could to stop her, but their lasers didn't exactly prevent her from doing what she wanted to do. With a bit of a playful tone in her voice, she shouted, "GO LONG!" before tossing the flying saucer like a frisbee. Of course, she made sure to throw it far away from the city, and into a pretty unpopulated area nearby. By the time it landed, a sizeable explosion could be seen.
As Xavier rushed down the street, having changed into his crime fighting regalia in haste and abandoning his old clothes in an abandoned alley, curses streamed from his lips. This was the exact opposite of what he had wanted to do during his trip to America: what had begun as a quick sojourn abroad to tour a potential university for attendance had been transmogrified into something else as terror swept through the streets. This was not ideal at all. . . an alien attack so close to the Aegis headquarters? A bold move, one that plunged Wayport City into chaos as carnage and death ran rampant during the siege on the hall of heroes. Furthermore, it was precarious business for Xavier to interfere: people like him were criminals in the eyes of Aegis and displaying his powers in full view of their seat of power, flaunting their rules and regulations, it was just asking for trouble.
[break][break]
But as cries for help rose out of the accumulating rubble, Xavier knew he could not be idle and stand by as innocents had peace stolen from them, consequences be damned. And so Pendragon arose and allowed the latent life force to flood his body, granting him powers of metahuman levels so that he might be able to make a difference here. Pendragon vaulted over rubble and overturned cars as he made for the enemy forces, stopping to aid civilians as the need arose: a pinned man here, a woman threatened by falling debris there. . . it was bedlam.
[break][break]
Before long, Xavier arrived at the heart of action. Other superbeings were already hard at work, defending against the alien onslaught, trying to hold the protective barrier steady. A cold realization settled into Pendragon's mind and he shivered: if that barrier fell, all was lost. Aegis was the main front of resistance; no matter what else, they needed to hold. Perhaps a bit more center stage than he should like, Pendragon knew he could not waste time. His sharp eyes quickly scanned the scene. One particularly impressive looking alien seemed to hold command over all the others, flanked by guards. Working on the assumption that they worked like most living creatures, Xavier arrived at the conclusion that the spider-like being was the commanding officer: it looked fierce enough, that was for certain.
[break][break]
Bracing himself for combat, Xavier charged a large ball of life energy, its pale glow bouncing softly off the surrounding scene. With a final breath, he loosed his latent energy and aimed right for the guards flanking the supposed officer, hoping to cause some level of disarray.

Well, Venus’ call for war did not go unanswered. Many different heroes began to flock to the fray, one in particular catching her gaze -- whether she wanted to or not.
Whoever they were, they grew immensely in size. The hero was humongous, as large as the many wondrous skyscrapers that usually prettified this urban district. Many of them were demolished now, thanks to the aggressive advance by these extraterrestrial invaders.
General Venus grit her fangs. This titan had quite easily shaken up many of her ground forces and even taken out an aerial unit. With such size, they’d need to shoot her down first before they regained a good shot of the Aegis barrier. The spider-beast rose an arm and cast it forward, yelling: ”Aerial units, perform some aerobatics! Shoot down this human hindrance at once!”
The many other aircraft in the sky heeded her direction promptly. The saucers stopped shooting, and began to barrel forward at astounding speed towards this heroine. They zipped and zoomed around precarious spots, hoping that their great numbers and sheer speed would be more than enough to befuddle this giant. They sent hot beams of plasma her way and in many directions, hoping to quickly apprehend her.
Oh, but the surprises didn’t stop. There was a quick wail of warning from one of her flanking soldiers before it was interrupted by the sounds of a blast. Dust and pieces of pavement were thrown up into the air. Venus’ guards had taken the hit for her, but in turn, many of them that had been protecting her right side fell to the ground, unconscious.
Venus narrowed her many eyes to look at the culprit of this bold assault. Ah, it was just another masked individual who had the nerve to get into the way of her plans.
”Tch! Bold little human,” The Harmatite general scowled. She gave a brief nod, summoning the rest of her standing guard to rush this irritating hero. Many bug-men with guns sprinted forward and shot this hero’s way.
The streets of downtown continued to envelop into chaos. Unprotected citizens were being chased down by alien bug menaces while heroes were rushing to protect them.
The Harmatites' airships were still blasting at Aegis' forcefield barrier, attempting to break it down.
Aegis HQ could use any help it could get, from hero, villain, civilian, and, frankly, at this point, even from villains.
Venus had her crimson eyes set wide open at the prey before her. She would be delighted to make any hero that opposed her a quick pre-victory snack.
Madz wasn't trying to be bothered with the chaos going on in the streets and the skies above. The loud pounding of airship cannons filled the sky and madz stoically watched from the street. Unscrewing the cap to his flask and drinking swishing around the hard liquor in his mouth. Cracking his neck and getting a bit loose for the upcoming battle even finding time to do my warm-up stretches before transforming into the red menace. Looking up at the skies above him had one target: the air ships that weren't so far apart from each other. While he wasn’t sure whaat he was going to face, he was more than prepared. Wall crawling up a side of the building and leaping the distance to the bottom one of the nearby air ships. Scaling effortlessly till he was the bottom of the air ship.
Creating a sword and drenched it in acid while making the cutting edge as sharp as possible. Stabbing his sword in the bottom and cutting a hole big enough for him to fit threw. Climbing in the hole and finding himself surrounded. Madz summoned another blade in his free hand and He sure he caused some kind of attention and wanted to make sure they knew he was here. Channeling psionic energy in his and unleashed a shockwave of energy that would cause the ship to crash into another. Cutting his way to the deck of the ship and just waiting for whatever the forces at be attacking this building hopefully notice him. Blades in each hand covered in a acid and madz stoic face ready for action.
