On With Great Power, there are multiple established organizations and factions that play an important role in our world. below are these roles, as some of them may differ from what you know them to be.[break]
organizations
aegis - aegis was established in 2010 by a former super-soldier named robert harrisson and a couple of other veterans you saw the second wave of supers coming. looking at how disorganized things were in their generation, this group of old men didn't wish the same disorganization on the new generation. so, aegis was born, becoming a hero association dedicated to homeland security, "homeland" meaning the entirety of earth and not just america. they monitor hotspots of super activity to both recruit and deploy heroes when trouble begins to stir. all heroes are expected to register to aegis in order to remain legal in the eyes of the united nations. unfortunately, this does mean that someone who registers will also be an agent of aegis, meaning that they not only answer to robert directly and follow his command, but they'll also have to forfeit their secret identity to the aegis database and, honestly, details on their personal life as a whole, but luckily aegis isn't the type of organization to just throw this information out into the public. director harrisson often reassures his employees that their secrets are safe with him. the benefits are great though, as all registered heroes are offered a free place to stay at the aegis headquarters, complete with the typical facilities, various training rooms with advanced training drones, research and development labs, shooting ranges, pools, massive dining halls, conference rooms for hero teams without a base yet, various break rooms, and pretty much anything else that you could think of. not to mention getting to be a legal superhero. careful not to cause too much property damage and try to save as many lives as you possibly can! being an aegis agent is a job, and superpower or not, no one is exempt from a shameful firing, though heroes aren't paid so it's moreso an extended, contracted volunteering gig.
[break]reign - reign was established long before aegis, sprouting up at about the same time that solera became the world's first superhero. their leaders are comprised of some of the world's most powerful men that hid within the shadows with the goal of controlling the public from the shadows. they saw solera as a threat to their underground schemes, and such interference would not be tolerated. so much so that one of solera's first villains was a reign super-soldier experiment who dissolved during the fight due to an overload of power intake in 1940. while this did bring reign somewhat to the light, the group still managed to remain largely hidden to this day, though villains and anti-heroes of interest could certainly work with or become agents of reign, especially in this new generation of supers. reign can find you, or, the group can be found in a plethora of places as they have spies everywhere, hiding in plain sight, and many meeting locations are normal places. bars, spas, clubs, small shops and the like are typically fronts for reign with databases and archives with communication to the reign round table in the back of these "safehouses". heroes, vigilantes, and aegis agents who aren't spies don't know this either, even director harrisson himself, but they are aware of the group's existence as a whole and are looking for leads to bring them to light. rumor has it that the organization is now using their recruits from this new generation to push their agenda of world domination.
[break]factions
heroes - heroes are registered good guys who stand to protect those who can't protect themselves. being that they're registered, they're also agents of aegis and have access to aegis resources along with legal rights to enacting their own law enforcement, so long as it doesn't result in killing unless absolutely necessary.
[break]villains - villains are more freelance in comparison to heroes. they can work with reign but they don't have to. they can certainly do their own thing, whether that be their own agenda for world domination or wanting to reshape the world in their own image in hope of "making it a better place".
[break]vigilantes - vigilantes are pretty much heroes that are just unregistered, meaning that they're pretty much everyone's enemy. they're the enemy of heroes and aegis because they're unregistered and illegal and they're the enemy of villains because they are still heroes that put a stop to evil deeds.
[break]anti-heroes - anti-heroes may have the word hero in their name but on wgp, they are not technically heroes. anti-heroes are neutral individuals who don't typically ally themselves with conventional perceptions of good and evil. they may not save someone from a car crash but that doesn't mean they're an evil mastermind either, or, sometimes they do good things like stopping a villain but they have no problem being brutal and lethal about it, unlike heroes and vigilantes, and they may have only been obligated to do so on a job as anti-heroes are often mercenaries, contract killers or bounty hunters that are in it for themselves.
[break]civilians - from the common citizen walking down the street to police officers, firefighters, office workers, even veteran soldiers, civilians are the "normal" group. however, this doesn't mean that they have to be powerless, they just wouldn't use their powers and skills so excessively or openly like heroes, vigilantes, villains and anti-heroes do.
[break]sidekicks(?) - sidekicks do technically exist, but they aren't a role because aegis isn't disrespectful enough to register people as sidekicks and most villains don't care what their lackeys call themselves so long as the job gets done. sidekicks are more so a designated role from IC plotting than an official label. if a sidekick is evil, they're labeled as a villain, if a sidekick is registered, they're labeled as a hero, if a sidekick is unregistered, they're a vigilante, and so on.
