if you've ever read a comic book, seen a saturday morning cartoon, or watched practically any superhero anime ever, you know that most situations tend to end up in a fight of good vs. evil (or sometimes even some kind of civil war). being an animanga superhero site, with great power is not exempt to this long-standing trope. someone is bound to fight someone, and we're pleased to tell you that here, you aren't bound by numbers. with great power follows a freeform combat system, meaning that there are no mathematical formulas or dice you need to deal with before punching someone in the face. your character tier and set capabilities of your powers and skills will act as a guideline for how well you do in a battle. if you've ever read a comic book, seen a saturday morning cartoon, or watched practically any superhero anime ever, you know that most situations tend to end up in a fight of good vs. evil (or sometimes even some kind of civil war). being an animanga superhero site, with great power is not exempt to this long-standing trope. someone is bound to fight someone, and we're pleased to tell you that here, you aren't bound by numbers. with great power follows a freeform combat system, meaning that there are no mathematical formulas or dice you need to deal with before punching someone in the face. your character tier and set capabilities of your powers and skills will act as a guideline for how well you do in a battle. There are a few important things to note:
[break][break]
- If players have a dispute about the going-ons and results of their combat encounters, they must take their concerns up with staff. Whatever staff decides regarding the situation is the final word on the subject.
- The rule regarding metagaming, godmodding, and powerplaying is especially in effect here. Any offense will result in an immediate warning. We understand that some characters may have incredible durability, amazing healing factors, and may even be able to phase through objects, but even established characters with these traits such as Superman, Wolverine and Martian Manhunter still receive damage in battle and have even died on multiple occasions in combat. No one is invincible here.
- A character cannot perform or use skills or powers that they have not either bought with acclaim or listed in their application. If your character doesn't have enhanced speed, then they shouldn't be outrunning cars, cheetahs, or people that do have said power. Stick to what you have.
[break]tiers
of course, everyone is going to apply for a character at some point, and upon approval of that character, they will be given a tier by staff. these tiers tell how much of a threat your character may be to overall society and other characters. more information on tiers can be found here!
[break]acclaim
acclaim is the site's official currency, used to buy items in the acclaim shop! these points are very important and play a crucial role in character progression. normally, these points are earned at a set rate of 10 acclaim per post. however, you can earn more through methods such as going on missions and events!
[break]crisis alerts & death enabled
the world is a very dangerous place, especially with so many superhumans running around. there are minor threats such as a bank robbery or a narcotics deal, but when a character threatens society as a whole through something like starting a doomsday device (which would require a massacre ticket), a crisis alert must be started in which other characters can either attempt to help or stop whatever scheme is underway. on the other hand, staff may start these as well with events. these threads are typically death-enabled unless explicitly stated otherwise, though not all death-enabled threads have to be crisis alerts. players can start their own death-enabled threads such as one on one battles to the death between archenemies, though these threads must be tagged with [DE] in the title and must have a good reason behind them.
[break]death
death is not the end in comic books, it's rarely the end in anime and on with great power it certainly is not the end of your story. after dying, players must wait fifteen days before finding their way back to life. how, you may ask? well, that's a matter of how creative you can get. in the world of comics, almost anything can happen, from a clone with your exact powers, a mysterious pit of healing liquid to an otherworldy regeneration matrix, characters are free to return to the living once their fifteen days are up, just propose your ideas to staff, or ask staff for some ideas if you're having trouble coming up with any yourself, or honestly, if you have any concerns about death in general as we understand that with so much variety comes an overwhelming amount of possibilities.
[break]species
your character can be anything from a mutant to an alien to a demon, but keep in mind that species like Saiyans or Kryptonians DO NOT EXIST and we strongly advise you to stay away from making blatant copycats. we're not saying don't make your character part of a species that gives them a unique physiology, but a character from a species that's fueled by the yellow sun and gains superhuman conditioning and flight but is also vulnerable to minerals from their home planet and magic will not fly. additionally, please stay away from making flat out gods such as Zeus or Thor. Avatars of these characters (meaning a character with powers similar to Zeus through Olympian Physiology, for example) would be okay as they'd likely be a mortal blessed with incredible powers, but making flat out gods or god-level characters is a no-go. In their pure mythological forms, these characters are far too powerful for our setting and the cosmic lore in these stories can conflict and cause confusion. staff will expand on these characters themselves and the greater entities of our universe as a whole at a later date.
[break]powers
when it comes to power and abilities, pretty much anything is possible so long as there are adequate weaknesses along with it. furthermore, all almighty, Omni, reality-warping and absolute powers are completely and utterly banned. no exceptions. also please make sure that a power you are planning to apply for isn't already taken by checking the claims thread.
