[attr="class","mary5"]Press conferences. Those two words brought dread to Khae’s heart, the thought of rich toadies sucking up to whoever was most powerful, of boring interviews with some of the most rubbish questions, trying to drum up drama out of nothing. It was especially bad in America, where the reporters were either super safe or went in hard with the drama angle. Honestly, it almost made her miss London.
However, her employers at the modelling company had essentially forced her to go. Of course, they couldn’t make her do anything, but they had offered quite the hefty reward if she did go and introduced herself to the hero world. It was excellent publicity, with the new batch of heroes all getting a spotlight, a chance to show off their personalities and what they could bring to the table. Khae imagined many of the heroes would have PR teams that were telling them exactly what to say, how to act, what body language to use, and how fast to speak. She couldn’t imagine the pressure those people were under.
Khae, of course, had no one to tell her what to do. She hated little more than that. Someone harping in her ear? No, thank you.
Approaching the gathering spot with all the rookie heroes, the scene was… about what she expected. Some were quiet and stoic, either due to being loners or wanting to make themselves out to be tough. Others were friendly, a few still tried to bully the others. Although Khae tried to metaphorically poke them to see how they reacted, she found most of them to be rather boring. She imagined their PR teams told them to avoid being too open with the other heroes so as to avoid a scandal. Psh.
There were no surprises with the speeches so far either. Cookie-cutter things about how they would protect the city, or smash the bad guys, or how powerful they were. They very quickly melded together into one big blob of boredom as Khae’s mind went elsewhere, fiddling with her phone with an expression of complete disinterest.
Finally, it was Khae’s turn. With a small smirk, she strutted onto the stage, and she looked like a runway model in that moment. The grace with which she carried herself exuded confidence like she knew exactly how beautiful she was. And she did. Her hero outfit, a seamless mixture of feminine and demonic, spoke to both her charm and her naughtiness.
Stopping in front of the microphone, she would speak. Despite her Southeast Asian features, her accent was English and somewhat posh.
“I’m Khae Thawan.” She said, eyes going over the crowd, mostly composed of civilians mixed with members of the press in front. She ever so slightly leaned forward, smirk imperceptibly widening, “And I pledge to do what I want.”
And with that said, she was off. For the vast majority of spectators, it would be as if she had disappeared, murmurs in the crowd as they wondered what had happened. The cave in under her feet, however, indicated she had simply used her immense speed to get out of there.
…
Khae sat some ways away from the crowd, in a spot where no one would think to look. She was sure no civilian would be observant enough to spot her, but perhaps a hero might, especially from their position giving a speech. Who knows? Perhaps one of them would yet catch her eye…
[attr="class","ion-heart"] don't ya' love this sweet devil?
Khae is a hedonist, plain and simple. Carefree, fiery, and with no regard for social rules, Khae is guided by her whims and impulses. Being both a hero and a model, she frequently eats at expensive places and goes shopping for pricey clothing, but is otherwise lives a rather simple lifestyle that reflects her simple and straightforward nature. Beyond the material, however, Khae has a great interest in people. She is easy to befriend as long as you understand that she'll drag you along to do all sorts of antics with her and that she will occasionally poke you to see what makes you tick.[break][break]
And god forbid you preach to her about how she needs discipline.[break][break]
But of course, no one ends up like Khae for no reason. Who knows, perhaps you could get her to open up about her more sensitive side.
FRIENDSHIPS COULD YOU BE DREAMING THAT WE'RE MEANT TO BE?
Befriending Khae is remarkably easy, and even if you don't approach her, she may well approach you for no reason other than just feeling like it. She enjoys exploring people not like that, perv, and will often use incredibly roundabout ways to try and see what someone's all about. She also enjoys dragging her friends along to all sorts of antics and encourages them to follow their hearts and whims a bit more. Everyone is just so uptight these days![break][break]
But those who grow particularly close to her will observe odd behaviour from her. She will grow clingy, often wanting their company more than usual, and may even grow slightly possessive of them, becoming a touch jealous when she sees them having fun with others. Indeed, stemming from her desire for control, Khae is terrified of the idea of losing anything or anyone. She will go to great lengths to keep those close to her safe, bearing a concern bordering on the unhealthy.
HATESHIPS WON'T SAY I LOVE YOU - THAT'S CRAZY, YOU SEE
While Khae definitely annoys others with her complete disregard for societal norms, she still has more friends than she does enemies. That said, Khae's short temper and fiery heart can easily land you on her bad side depending on the sort of person you are. Preaching to her about how her lifestyle needs to be changed will be met with snarky comments, and those who don't get the message will promptly be told to piss off. Beyond that, however, Khae loathes those who see fit to trample on the desires and goals of others. She considers the pursuit of one's desires to be highly important, and she will not stand for anyone trampling on them for personal gain. In this vein, most villains and anti-heroes will be viewed as enemies.
LOVESHIPS DON'T EVEN TRY TO UNDERSTAND ME
Ahhh, love. Contrary to what it may seem, Khae isn't opposed to the idea at all. She just hasn't had the opportunity to feel it. While she is experienced in the area of flings, one night stands, sex, and the whole shebang, genuine romance is foreign territory for her. With those she loves, she may act in an uncharacteristic manner, akin to a giddy schoolgirl talking to her crush. Those who take the time to listen and understand Khae instead of judging her have a shot at taking her heart, and from then onwards they will be considered hers, almost like they were property. Make no mistake, though, Khae treats her things very well.
[attr="class","mary5"]Dreams were what made humanity get to the point they were at now. People with enough ambition and smarts, or just plain crazy, trying something never done before. It was what brought humanity forward, providing people with a reason to look forward to the next day, and the reason anyone did anything.
At least, that’s what Khae thought.
Which was why events like these were so important. Orphanages were, in principle, a lovely thing; taking in a child with no parents due to an unfortunate event. However, all too often, they were where dreams went to die. Without the fostering of young minds, what hope did the future have?
Tolerating high-life toadies aside, Khae was actually having a fair bit of fun interacting with the littles ones! The mere mention of heroing left them bright-eyed and full of glee, and Khae was more than happy to regale them with her tales. Some of them were of herself, others of figures who inspired her, but all of them were told in a way to inspire them. Make them think about what they themselves could do, both for themselves and for society at large.
She could only hope the message stuck.
And the effect of being orphaned stuck around for well after childhood. Khae herself knew this… and it seemed another felt it as well. The blonde lady, equal parts tough and elegant, was one of them. Though Khae was far from an academic, she understood people better than most, attuned to emotion as she was. She couldn’t mistake that mournful look.
Especially not when she had worn it herself.
Breaking away from the kids for the time being, Khae would wait for the opportunity to catch her away from all the other people, placing herself in a way that the two would happen upon one another.
Khae looked Sarah in the eye, and though the hero known as Mara was known for being brash, cocky, and generally unreasonable. Her eyes, however, reflected only empathy and understanding.
“Some things cut close to the bone, hmm?” She spoke in a slightly posh English accent that couldn’t truly be placed anywhere, alluding to her education and upbringing.
[attr="class","mary5"]Sitting there for a moment, the fox would stare at her some longer, indecisive on what to do. Further beckoning from Khae, however, would cause it to inch ever so closer, much to her delight. She couldn’t wait to-
The sounds of another call snapped her out of her distraction, blinking as she looked around, trying to spot where it was coming from. Was it another fox in the vicinity? She was once again distracted by the fox, that was now backing away from her, much to her dismay. She couldn’t help but pout. She really wanted to pet it!
Focused on her sadness as she was, she only noticed Kyoko’s presence once she appeared before her in a flurry of leaves. Wow, there was a lot happening today, wasn’t there? Lazily standing up, she took stock of the girl before her, and a wide, slightly predatory grin spread across her face. This girl was just adorable! What entity had she pleased to encounter such an endearing person?
Ignoring Kyoko’s question for the moment, she would instead strut up to her without a care in the world, and with complete confidence in herself. Her body language clearly transmitted control, stopping right in front of Kyoko, just short of touching her in a blatant invasion of personal space.
“Aren’t you a cute little thing~?” She said in a singsongy tone, slightly posh English accent noticeable, “Did I barge into your spot, sweetie? I am so sorry, but I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again if I knew I’d meet someone as adorable as you~.”
She winked at her and booped her on the nose before backing off, giving Kyoko room to breathe.
“As for what I’m doing… that’s a rather broad question, no? I suppose you could say I’m just here to relax, appreciate nature, get away from the city, yeah? It can be so noisy, and the people can sometimes be… ugh.” She rambled on, playing with a strand of her hair as she did so, “But I believe the better question is… why are you here?”
Turquoise eyes gained a piercing quality as she looked directly into Kyoko’s eyes as if she knew exactly what the tanuki was doing here. Had she been tipped off? Could she read minds? Was she bluffing? Who knows?
Those were just some of the lovely traits attributed to Khae by the higher-ups of hero society. Officials took quite a bit of pride in their rules and regulations, and when someone disregarded them, it didn’t really go over well. This was why they had suffered through quite a bit of headache dealing with one Khae Thawan, a Thai-British woman who quite literally came back from the dead, and who only seemed to want to cause misery for those who enforced the rules.
Of course, Khae couldn’t care less.
A hero license to her was convenience, nothing else. It allowed her to do her thing without being hounded by other heroes so utterly convinced of the unassailableness of the law that they would rather waster their efforts hunting those who exercised their powers against villains without a license rather than using that time to deal with villains. It was enough to make her smile with bitterness; she just didn’t get these people, and it filled her with scorn to see them pushing their nonsense ideals onto those who want nothing to do with them.
Oh, but look at her, getting all worked up over nothing when she was meant to be enjoying herself! With a small sigh and a shake of her head, she kept on walking; she wouldn’t let some pencil-pushing pillock ruin her day!
Indeed, she had once again had a run-in with the law after she broke and entered to bust a man’s drug distribution operation without any sort of warrant. The man was distributing vast amounts of drugs, of course, but some twit had got on her case about acting without permission. She promptly told him to bugger off.
And after that annoying experience, she needed to get away from government officials, and the city… and people in general. Really, despite what her personality may suggest, even she needed some time to herself every once in a while. Especially if some damned, annoying-!
She pinched the bridge of her nose. She was getting worked up. Again. Sighing once more, she chose instead to direct her attention outward, towards the beautiful pond she had stopped by. A few solitary rays of sunshine hit the crystalline waters, surrounded on all sides by comfy-looking grass that she just had to lie on. And lie she did, flopping back onto the soft grass, the experience was better than any bed. Maybe she should fall asleep here…
But out of the corner of her eye, a fox! It stared at her from the bushes with the anxiety one would expect from a wild animal, but Khae offered it a small smile. Gesturing with her hand, she would speak in a soft, almost hushed voice.
“Come on, no need to be shy. I won’t hurt you, sweetie~.”
It was safe to say that she was entirely focused on getting the fox within arm’s reach for unknown reasons. So focused on the task at hand, she wouldn’t realise that she was being watched…

Those words sum up Khae quite nicely. An unapologetic hedonist, Khae follows whatever whims she has in the moment with no regard for rules, regulations, or societal norms. Most of her life is spent chasing after whatever impulse she feels at that moment, whether it be food, a new car, or sex. She doesn’t understand the notion of discipline, duty, or obligation beyond doing what your heart wills you to, and those who preach those principles to her are regarded as irritating and old-fashioned.[break][break]
This is not to say she is a selfish person. She respects the will of others, and in fact, actively encourages others to chase their whims as well. She believes people suppress their desires far too much for their own good and would do well for themselves if they were a little more honest with what they wanted. She also loathes villains and selfish individuals, for she believes that they are people who would tread on others and keep them from following their whims, thus stealing away their chance at happiness.[break][break]
Khae is definitely an emotional person as opposed to logical, but despite her aforementioned traits, she is far from charmless. In fact, she has charm in spades, able to gain the favour of many individuals through her charisma, strong personality, and stunning good looks. This is greatly helped by her empathy; being so attuned to her emotions, she can easily understand the emotions of others. Witnessing the suffering of others, a softer side comes into play, Khae feeling their pain as if it were hers whether she likes it or not. It pushes her to be a hero despite her hedonistic nature, for her heart cannot ignore those in need.[break][break]
But someone so emotional has predictable downfalls. Short-tempered and vengeful, Khae does not take kindly to being wronged despite being quite accepting off all sorts of personalities. Her temper flares quickly and noticeably, a far cry from her usual easygoing nature, and she will go to great lengths to get even, or more than even with someone who did her or her loved ones wrong in the past.[break][break]
Under all these layers, however, still lies the scared girl who was forced to watch helplessly as everything she loved was taken away from her. Her impulsive nature is, in some ways, a way of coping with the trauma. Having had everything forcefully ripped away from her, she now compensates by chasing after everything she desires as a way of ascertaining to herself that she is always in control and that no one can take anything away from her ever again. This becomes more pronounced when it comes to those close to her; she constantly frets over their safety and can be possessive, fearing that they would get hurt. Or worse, leave her.
From the very start, I was blessed with a good life. My mother was a poor Thai woman living in a small village a few ways out of Bangkok, but my father, he was quite something. An English businessman who had taken a liking to my mother, they eventually married. Despite this, however, my mother wanted to stay in the village. In this capacity, I experienced two very different worlds, although I never knew true hardship. Father would not let his family want for anything, after all. To this end, I was sent to the very best schools in England to ensure proper education, spending time in Thailand with mummy when not busy with school.[break][break]
I figured very early on that I could do what I wanted, and so I took up whatever best pleased me. Although I enjoyed a variety of more artsy things, my two passions were martial arts and modelling. My father provided me with a massive marketing force, and I soon became quite famous in Thailand, with some level of fame in the United Kingdom as well. In the meantime, I enjoyed myself, doing what I wanted, making friends, and most importantly, spending time with my family.[break][break]
Then it was all taken away from me.[break][break]
Cultists opened portals to Naraka and demons came flooding out. My family, including my father who had come to spend time with us in the village, could do nothing to defend ourselves. I had to watch as everything and everyone I had come to love was ripped away from me before finally being slain myself.[break][break]
But my soul wasn’t ready to move on. I awoke inside of Naraka, faced with a steep mountain climb to the top, my only hope of a second chance at life. My memory of this time is hazy, filled only with pain, hopelessness, and misery. Everything from demons to the environment itself ate away at my soul, and it was only through sheer force of will that I didn’t fade away into the ether. Throughout that time, I could feel hellish energies being infused into my soul, changing my very essence into something warped and demonic. I paid it no mind, however, completely focused on survival.[break][break]
My next memory is of waking up in a hospital in Bangkok. There, the doctors told me that I had appeared in an explosion of energy, but was unresponsive when approached. I also found out that ten years had gone by since my death.[break][break]
But I wouldn’t let that stop me. Hell itself couldn’t keep me down, so why would I allow myself to stop here? With my newfound powers, I very quickly acquired a license to become a hero and travelled to the United States.[break][break]
I will get what I want, and no one can tell me otherwise.” [break][break]
Khae's soul has been warped beyond recognition, and it has had a profound effect on her body and mind. Chief among these is a great increase to her physical attributes. She is capable of reliably running at speeds of up to 180 miles an hour with a running start, with short bursts of speed that reach supersonic levels, making her move faster than the eye can see. Her punches are strong enough to pierce through the walls of a tank and levelling buildings, and she is capable of lifting a blue whale. More impressive than the rest, however, is her durability; she is capable of taking attacks that would destroy city blocks, and she is capable of fighting for over a day, a testament to her tenacity in the face of adversity.[break][break]
Additionally, she has a resistance to things of hellish or dark origin. Curses, necrotic attacks and the like have less of an effect on her than they otherwise would.[break][break]
As a side note, although Khae is chronologically twenty-eight, the effects of spending ten years in Naraka has ceased physical ageing, making her physically eighteen. Her body is kept together solely through her own desire to live.[break][break]
X - Conversely, Khae is quite vulnerable to exorcists and summoners. Magicians capable of creating runes to contain demons could use the same techniques to contain her, or perhaps even temporarily banish her to Naraka. Meanwhile, summoners could summon her as a demon, removing her from a place where she could cause damage. Summoners vastly more powerful than her could even temporarily bind her to their service.[break][break]
X - The angrier she is and the longer she fights, the more her nature is exposed as her soul rips away at her physical form. Her canines and horns grow, her eyes turn a glowing red, her nails turn to claws, and her skin reddens, then blackens, making her look like a true hellspawn. This also has the effect of making her less and less rational and makes her act like little more than an animal in extreme cases. A little bit of tactical thinking can easily take advantage of this. [break][break]
X - She keeps herself alive through will alone, but this means that falling into sadness and even depression can have a profound effect on her. The less she desires to live, the more her body atrophies. Removing her will to live entirely causes her to fade away into the ether.[break][break]
Though basic and untrained, Khae is capable of manipulating chi to aid her in combat. She is capable of infusing her punches with chi to affect immaterial enemies, and charge up a ball of chi to launch at her enemies. This can be weaker than her usual punches or powerful enough to destroy a city block at maximum charge, which takes around a minute to achieve. Its range is a mere fifty metres, but it travels at 200 miles per hour.[break][break]
X - Her dark chi is countered by the chi of more disciplined martial artists who have mastered themselves, as well as holy forces with the power of the divine on their side. [break][break]
A representation of her vanity, Khae has managed to maintain outer beauty despite her warped inner self. She is more beautiful than what is humanly possible, and she can use it to her advantage. From being forgiven for a transgression to being let into a party, to persuading an otherwise unreasonable individual, Khae can get what she wants without throwing a single punch. It keeps her skin flawless, and even allows her to decorate her face with makeup! The fashion industry hates her![break][break]
(OOC Note: These effects require player consent to be employed against a player character.)[break][break]
A necessary aspect of survival, not only to defend herself but to properly utilise the boons her body grants her. Khae specialises in striking, her fighting style a mixture of Lethwei and Taekwondo. However, she is no slouch when it comes to other things such as grappling and even the less clean aspects, such as small joint manipulation and eye-gouging. This also her the ability to quickly understand the fighting style of her opponents, breaking them down in her head and figuring out counters to them. A vital thing for someone who isn't too keen on planning.[break][break]
