Charlotte had to admit that she was somehow out of her comfort zone. While she normally was a master of the human body and all of it's components, something about this particular case managed to completely stump her. More specifically, she was attempting to perform an autopsy on a mysterious assailant encountered by Aegis operatives in the field. The man seemed like he was in his mid thirties, and stood at an imposing six foot five. Facial recognition software tied him to a former police officer who seemed to vanish over five years ago, though it was clear that he has certainly changed since. While an autopsy like this would normally child's play to someone like her, this body has clearly been tampered with. Many of his internal bodily functions seemed to be replaced by machinery of some kind. She had a proper cyborg on her hands.[break][break]
Of course, the fact that it was a machine wasn't what stumped her. Artificial replacements for biological organs has been a medical concept for years and years. The part that confused her was what the machines were actually doing. They weren't actually performing biological processes, or at least not biological processes that Charlotte could recognize. While she could make out a clear internal method for the machines to power themselves, she couldn't tell much about what they were actually doing. That's not even mentioning the biological organs that were left in the specimen. It seemed like they had been completely rewired to this machine's apparatus. As if the organs themselves had been moved to completely separate parts of the body and somehow reprogrammed to perform a separate task. The fact that the specimen was alive at all was a miracle.[break][break]
Its not like she was here to admire the handiwork though, she needed to get answers. At the end of the day, this cyborg was a terrorist who almost detonated an entire chemical plant outside of Wayport. Upon being subdued by Aegis agents, he decided to take his own life over being taken alive. Clearly he had something to hide, and presumably someone or something that he was working for. Charlotte needed to figure out anything she could about a possible employer from the body. [break][break]
Letting out a dejected sigh as she noted her observations on a lab report, she was surprised by the sudden entrance of her superior. Supposedly another Aegis agent was going to be assigned to this investigation. In her mind, she desperately tried to not take it personally, but it really didn't work. She's a Doctor, and an absolute genius at that. She should be able to figure this out by herself. Returning to the specimen with a renewed vigor, Charlotte heard a strange sparking as she began to investigate a potential respiratory apparatus. As if it wasn't clear already, she was completely out of element.

[attr="class","monbody2"] To be completely honest, the idea of dissecting a cyborg corpse wasn't Sunny's idea of a good time. For one, who made a cyborg zombie suicide soldier? For two, she was absolutely not a doctor, didn't Aegis have someone to look at this kind of thing? But the report was still something she was equipped to handle since the other super smart guys were busy looking over the loot and wreckage from the Haramite attack a week or two ago. Hard to think such a big event was already starting to stand out as just another Tuesday. It could have gone better, but it could have gone worse too.
So after a little bit of insistence from her 'bosses' Sunny found herself heading for the medical bays to help out. The sterile scents of the medical wing of Aegis' headquarters was alien and strange to her, like stepping in to someone else's realm. No sounds of working power tools or the smell of technology, just the beeping of life monitoring devices and the strong smell of disinfectants. They were pretty busy too after the alien attack. Her room was examination lab three, which wasn't hard to find. Giant girl from the day of the invasion was in there poking at some machinery embedded in the torso of a man twice Sunny's size.
"Uh... Hi. I'm Nexus Buster, I do tech stuff. Someone told me you were having a hard time with this cyborg tech stuff and asked if I could help you out. That guy looks gross though, what the heck happened to him?" She asked, putting on a mask she grabbed from the desk as she came over. The machinery inside was complex and mysterious, from her first glance it looked like most of the machinery wasn't really for keeping this dude alive. Most of his organs had been pushed around and the mask didn't do anything to hide the foul smell of guts and grease mixing together. Gross. She'd never seen a body up close like this before... "God, how can you stand that smell?"
Charlotte had to admit that she was quite surprised when she saw the person who casually entered her lab. While she knew that Aegis was home to multiple unorthodox people, she wasn't expecting someone so young to help her on this case. Of course, she probably couldn't talk in that respect. While older than Sunny, Charlotte was still barely twenty-one. Most people her age were still in school, while she already possessed doctorates in multiple fields. Examining the newcomer as she put on her mask, Charlotte finally realized where she recognized her from. Or at least, assumed that she recognized her. "You're Sun-hi Lee right? I've seen some of your work," she said simply, as she just put the pieces together in her head. After all, there weren't that many female Korean tech prodigies who've that had kind of success without looking a day out of high school. Deciding she'd may as well get through pleasantries before they started really attacking the cyborg's body, she continued, "Dr. Charlotte Leblanc, a pleasure." [break][break]
Now that was finally over with, the real fun could begin. Grabbing a hold of her lab report, it was soon hand delivered to Sunny, so she could note all of the observations that Charlotte has made so far. While she could just let her read it, she decided to also explain some of the main points out loud. "The subject's body seems to have been rewired beyond the point of merely sustaining human life. It seems like he was made into a biological computer of some kind, with human organs somehow serving roles within a new computing apparatus. At the moment, it's difficult to determine just what the machine was actually intended to do, or how the subject was even kept alive in the first place. All of our diagnostics done closer to the time of death reveal that the subject was still effectively human, somehow," she explained thoroughly as she gave her a brief run down of each of the system's various components. Using a scalpel to point out elements of the body which seemed greatly out of place or functioning in a completely different process than normal.[break][break]
Taking a bit of a deep breath as she adjusted her mask, she couldn't help but be a bit taken aback by the comment. Of course, she'd normally done autopsy's with fellow doctors, so the idea of complaining seemed beyond foreign. Deciding she at least deserved a response, Charlotte snided back, "Eight years of med school mainly. Trust me I've worked with bodies and situations way worse than this. You get used to it after awhile." She had to admit that it was a bit relaxing to be working on this with someone else, since hopefully they could share some of the stress of this whole encounter.
[attr="class","monlyrics2"]I guess someone has to do it
[attr="class","monbody2"] Sunny was taken aback when the doctor lady, Charlotte, recognized her. Like, genuinely recognized her! Not as some up and coming super hero but as a technological genius. It was...
Wow, that was really nice. Sunny smiled and tried not to gag at the horrible smell, but with the mask she doubted the doctor could see it.
And anyways she was off explaining what they were looking at. A lot of complicated machinery had been crammed in to this man's torso, Sunny's sharp eyes scanning along the edges as she identified a few pieces off the bat. She'd never seen a cyborg with this level of integration. Or well, lack of it might be a better term. Her mind was already whirling with thoughts and numbers, pulling out her phone and its adaptable connector port. The best way to find out what a piece of machinery was doing was to try to get in to the code.
"I'm no doctor but I think you're right, the machine was using the person. I might be able to access the machine code if we can find a port to plug in to a main computing device, but I have some ideas. This pump down here looks like one I've seen in some high end power conversion devices, but some of these I've never seen before in anything. Nothing like this inside Nexus Buster anyways," Sunny replied, setting her phone down on an empty medical tray... thing while she ran a gloved hand along some of the sturdy electronics. Fascinating. And then she hit on what she was looking for; a port. She plugged the little cable in and a thin line of blue lit up along what she presumed was the central drive.
"All right, that's step one... let's see if I can figure something out from this," She mused more to herself than her partner, the machinery was complex but it wasn't written in a language she understood. That really put a damper on her momentum. "개새, I don't recognize this language. The characters look like Russian don't they? You think it's some Russian programming language? Why would there be a Russian cyborg in Wayport? I feel like I could power this all the way back on but who knows what it does..."
Charlotte seemed too lost in thought to mind the casual phone being put down next to her sterilized medical equipment. What she didn't know couldn't hurt her after all. She was mainly focused on the point that Sunny made about power conversion. While the fact that it was there didn't surprise her, it was the nature of how was still a mystery. "What sort of power is it even converting...?" she mused to herself as she took a closer examination of the pump. It was then that she started to put the pieces together. Turning her attention towards the subject's head, her whole background in neurobiology came flooding back to her. Noticing a distinct cable implanted directly towards the back of the subject's head, she formed her more complete hypothesis. [break][break]
Having a bit of a proud look to her, she quickly turned herself away from the body and towards her clipboard. Running some numbers in her head, she started to map out a more complete picture of this operation. She then proudly said, "I think I've figured out how the subject has managed to stay alive and appear human," before taking a bit of a deep breath. She knew that this would definitely take some explanation, especially considering that she wasn't exactly talking to a neurosurgeon here. "If my hypothesis is correct, this small cable feeding into the subject's brain is tricking it in a way. While the subject should be dead by all means, the cable is generating electric impulses almost identical to the natural neural oscillations of the brain. The machinery is essentially tricking the brain into performing normal neural functions and giving commands to the rest of the body, which seems to be set up to sustain all of the machinery inside the subject. The mechanical energy being created is being fed back into the machine, giving it the power which is partially being converted to the initial electric impulses. The machine essentially acts as an artificial brain and forces the subject's biology into becoming a walking power generator." [break][break]
While she was going through her whole breakthrough on the biological aspect of the cyborg's design, there were still so many questions. Who was responsible for this? Why did they do it in the first place? Beyond simply keeping the subject alive, what was the machine's true goal? Of course, while she was rattling off, her partner continued working on her lead. Listening carefully to her struggles with the Russian programming language, she couldn't help but feel out of her element. Looking confident when Sunny suggested activating the machine, she knew that it had to be done. "We're scientists, this is what we do. We can't stop until we've exhausted every possible method to learn the truth. Besides, I can take care of a half dead cyborg just fine," she reassured her. At the end of the day, discovering everything to know about this cyborg was their mission, and they needed to complete it.
