[attr="class","ayab-text"]Kaiden hadn't been able to stop stressing over what had happened with those thugs. He prided himself on his optimism and ability to never back down when faced with adversity. Kaiden could always find a reason to smile no matter the situation. You couldn't let yourself get bogged down with negative thoughts. That was something he'd always told himself, he'd practically hammered into his soul.[break][break]
Yet despite the situation with the gunmen having happened two days ago. Kaiden hadn't been able to let his disappointment over his actions during the crisis go. Sure, he'd managed to knock out one thug, but he'd also gotten hit by an attack that could have been lethal. Even the act of protecting Kyoko and Sarah had taken everything he could muster to pull off.[break][break]
It was embarrassing.[break][break]
According to his parents, he was being too hard on himself - it had been his first taste of actual combat after all. But that just felt an excuse and a poor one at that. He needed to get stronger so that something like falling unconscious didn't happen again. Which is why he'd immediately said yes when Kyoko called and asked to meet. Not that he would have no anyway, but it gave him more of a reason to meet up with her. [break][break]
Kaiden wasn't sure how he felt about vegan ice cream, though.[break][break]
"I'm always down to try new things, live and learn as they say." he smiled warmly and looked over the list of flavors. There wasn't anything too exotic on the menu. Just your typical favorites like vanilla and chocolate with a few unique flavors like the coconut. Quite tame, especially when he'd been expecting something like wheatgrass to be there.[break][break]
"Hahaha, you don't have to thank me!" Kaiden flashed Kyoko another warm and reassuring smile, "I love meeting new people, making friends is kind of my thing." he chuckled. "When I was little my mom used to call it my super power. It's so cheesy and a little embarrassing I know." Kaiden laughed a little harder and rubbed at his neck - hopefully, she felt a little less embarrassed now.[break][break]
Kaiden placed his order, ordering strawberry ice cream under the assumption that fruit might make it taste better for him. He shook his head when Kyoko offered to pay for him. "Nah, you don't have to do that. I don't want you to waste your money on the off chance that I don't like it." he'd feel kinda bad if that happened. Once he got his order, Kaiden stepped out of line and started towards a nearby bench.[break][break]
"So your from Japan? That's pretty cool! I've been there once on vacation with my folks. Well, I say vacation but it was actually for some business thing my dad had to go too. While he was working my mom and I got to do the whole tourist thing."

[attr="class","ayab-text"]Kaiden had been examining the various museum displays while Sunny did some kind of work on her mech. Calibrations are what she'd called it right? He thought that's what she'd said at least, but he wasn't sure. Honestly, all that tech stuff was a bit beyond him. Not that Kaiden didn't find it interesting, because it defiantly was. He just couldn't understand a lick of it and trust him - he'd tried.[break][break]
He looked away from the painting he'd been inspecting and glanced over his shoulder at Nexus Buster. A small chuckle escaping his lips at all the clacking coming from inside it. Man, he kinda wished he was as smart as Sunny. Truth be told, he was a little jealous of her intelligence. Kaiden hadn't told anyone, but he'd tried to copy it before. It hadn't worked, obviously, but it had been worth a shot. Having it would have made college easier and helped him understand any other powers he copied.[break][break]
A little lost in his thoughts, Kaiden almost jumped out of his skin when Sunny's voice came from Nexus Buster's speakers. "That's a little embarrassing." he thought and rubbed at the back of his neck. "You're bored?" he questioned, turning to face the mech with a puzzled expression. Actually, thinking about it, Kaiden could see why she'd be a little bored. They'd been inside the museum for almost an hour now, and nothing troubling at happened.[break][break]
It was a little strange.[break][break]
Kaiden flashed Sunny a smile, "Yeah, it probably was a bit much to send the both of us. I guess Aegis just wanted to safe rather than sorry." he said, placing a hand into one of his pockets. "I don't mind staying to take care of things by myself if you wanna head out. Especially if things are going to be like this all night." said Kaiden with a nod. With the training he'd been doing with Kyoko, he was sure he'd be fine by himself.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Saved from any repeat attacks from the thug by Sarah, Kaiden thanked her while still struggling to catch his breath. "Thanks a ton miss." he smiled weakly. His eyelids suddenly feeling a lot heavier now that the situation had calmed down. He gave a quick glance over to Kyoko. She was currently putting the cuffs on all the thugs and wrapping things up.[break][break]
She said something about waiting for Aegis but Kaiden couldn't quite make it out. The world around him was starting to get a little fuzzy, had he really used up that much energy?[break][break]
"Hey, I don't...feel so....goo-" his consequences left him before he could finish. The young hero collapsed onto the ground lost in a world of dreams.
Kaiden was stuffing his face with one of his mom's signature breakfast subs when an emergency broadcast played on the tv.[break][break]
A young woman trying her best not to sound panicked spoke over a live-feed of UFOs descending from the sky. She was saying something about visitors from another planet. Which he hadn't thought was a bad thing until they started firing a laser at the city.[break][break]
Wide-eyed and almost choking on his food, Kaiden shot up from the couch as they continued to attack. There was barely any time for him to process what was going on. His cellphone vibrated in his pocket, and immediately he pulled it out to check it. It was Aegis, of course, and he knew what they wanted.[break][break]
It was hero time.[break][break]
------[break][break]
Aegis didn't tell Kaiden much about the invaders, but that was okay. What little they had told him was useful, and besides, he didn't need a detailed explanation about the Harmatites. They were putting the world at risk, and that's all that mattered at the moment.[break][break]
On his way to meet up with the rest of his team - Kaiden kept getting sidetracked helping civilians get to safety. While it slowed him down, it also gave him a chance to see some of the destruction first hand. It pissed him off, and that anger only grew the closer he got to his detestation. By the time he arrived at the rendezvous point Kaiden was fuming and it showed.[break][break]
He kicked the door to the roof off its hinges, "It's a fucking mess out there." he declared with gritted teeth. "These bastards have no empathy for the lives their taking. It's disgusting." and if they did Kaiden hadn't seen it.[break][break]
"Oh and whose bright idea was it to meet on a fucking roof? he continued, "Because they shouldn't be picking the meeting spots anymore. Stairs are a bitch and not everyone can fly." he finished with a sigh.
Power Summary: Born with a mixture of his parent's mutations, Kaiden can copy the powers of others. Done through a type of empathic link which connects one of his emotions to an individual and their power. Once linked, he can then channel that emotion and use their power as thought it was his own.
History: The son of two retired heroes, Kaiden grew up on stories of his parent's heroics. Romanticised tales that left a lasting impression long after he'd grown up to see them for what they were. Being a hero was Kaiden's dream but until he was fourteen, it was thought Kaiden was powerless. Heroes never give-up though, and so he pushed ahead despite the odds. Doing as many good deeds and helping out however he could. When his mutation triggered trying to recklessly help another hero, Kaiden was ecstatic - even if he couldn't quite control his heightened emotions. Four years of training with his mother and Aegis, and Kaiden was ready to live out his dream.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] "It stings, but it's nothing I can't handle." he smiled confidently at Kyoko, hoping to ease her concern. When she got closer to inspect the wound regardless, Kaiden blushed. "Really, you don’t need too..." his voice cut off, the sudden glow of her hands catching him off guard. Kaiden quietly watched as she placed her hands onto his injured shoulder. A few seconds later, and the pain disappeared.[break][break]
"Wow," Kaiden looked at Kyoko in awe, "That's amazing, you're amazing." and now he felt bad for calling her a raccoon. He would have to apologize once they dealt with the gunmen. Speaking of the gunmen, Kaiden stood up from the rubble to check on Sarah.[break][break]
He caught a glimpse of the blonde dealing the knock-out blow to one of the thugs. Kaiden whistled, "Nice! That just leaves one left for us to deal with." but that didn't mean it would be easy. Criminals were often more dangerous when they were backed into a corner. A lesson Kaiden was about to learn the hard way.[break][break]
The dial of his gun cranked up to the max. The surrounding area didn't stand a chance against the gunmen's plasma beams. With little time to think, Kaiden was forced to rely on his instincts.[break][break]
Keeping Kyoko's advice in mind, Kaiden extended his arm and reached out to the nearby plant-life. For a moment, it would seem as though he failed only for a lime-green aura to surrounded his body.[break][break]
Created from Kunoichi-chan's discarded shuriken, two barriers of thorny vines grew in front of Sarah and Kaiden. The plasma bolts hit the barriers, reducing them to ash but preventing the heroes from taking any damage.[break][break]
Kaiden collapsed to his knees, sapped of energy and panting heavily.[break][break]
An emotional mess with a heart of gold, Kaiden has a lot in common with your typical shounen protagonist. He's charamstic, frequently smiling, and always ready to offer a hand to someone in need.

so you will come to know when the bullet hits the bone
When Aegis had asked him to introduce himself at their upcoming hero rally, Kaiden excitedly agreed. Public speaking didn't bother him like it did most others. He'd learned pretty early that he had a talent for speaking in front of large groups. Kaiden had no problem talking with people in general. Maybe it had something to do with his empathic nature, but he had little trouble reading others.[break][break]
That didn't mean he was immune to the occasional feeling of nervousness. Something that his pacing made very obvious to the other heroes backstage. Practically on the verge of a panic attack given how heightened all of his emotions were. Kaiden had to keep telling himself to calm down, "You've done this a hundred times." he muttered as he paced. "Well not this exact thing - but that's besides the point." he groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose.[break][break]
"Deep breath Kaiden," he breathed in, "now exhale." as if he was blowing his anxiety away, Kaiden felt himself relax as he breathed out. He was still a little on edge, however, and so decided to distract himself. Kaiden stepped away from the section off area Aegis was keeping them in and into the main hall.[break][break]
He clung to one of the walls, trying to make himself as invisible as possible. He didn't want to steal the spotlight from any of the heroes on stage. Not that he had any amount of reputation that would warrant such a thing. Kaiden listened rather intently as the other heroes spoke. None of them had said anything outside of your standard stuff until Khae stepped on stage.[break][break]
"Wow, she's hot." she'd definitely selected that outfit to make a statement and it was a bold one. Equally as bold was how she introduced herself. "And I pledge to do what I want." Kaiden repeated under his breath. That definitely wasn't what anyone had been expecting her to say. Kaiden liked it though, even if it wasn't every heroic.[break][break]
He made his way backstage once Khae vanished from in front of the microphone. It would be his turn to speak soon and he needed to give himself one last pep-talk.[break][break]
---[break][break]
Kaiden cleared his throat and stepped up to the microphone, "What is a hero?" he asked, pausing briefly to let the audience think of an answer.[break][break]
"I've thought about that question a lot over the years." he continued, "I say that like I'm old or something, but it's true. From the time my mom told me my first superhero story to right now. That question has always been at the back of my mind. It has to be, and I think it should be at the back of every hero's mind. It's that important of a question and one we should constantly be asking ourselves. Without it, it's easy to get caught up in all the glitz and glam that comes with being a hero."[break][break]
Kaiden paused to collect his thoughts and to push back against the feeling of unease in his stomach.[break][break]
"I can't speak for the other heroes, but to me, a hero is someone that inspires others to be better. Either through their actions or their words. A hero will extend a hand to one in need regardless of who they are and what they've done. A hero is someone willing to put their life on the line for a chance to save someone else's. No matter how small that chance might be. I know that's a bit of a childish view, but it's mine."[break][break]
He scanned the crowd, his eyes falling on Khae setting a fair distance away from everyone else. Kaiden unknowingly let his eyes linger on her as he continued to speak.[break][break]
"I can't promise you I'll be the strongest hero or that I'll always make the right calls. But I can promise the people of Wayport, of the entire world, that I'll do whatever I can to ensure they can make it home safe and sound at the end of the day. Thank you for listening." [break][break]
Kaiden started to walk away from the microphone when he suddenly realized something. "Oh crap," he quickly darted back to the mic, nearly knocking the next hero to speak down as he did. "I totally forgot to introduce myself didn't I?" Kaiden laughed and smiled at the crowd, "You can call me Emote." he then very quickly made his way off the stage.[break][break]

Plant manipulation, energy beams, and she could sprout wings at a moment's notice? Kyoko definitely had some impressive powers under her belt.[break][break]
"Wait...can I grow wings now too?" he made a mental note to try when things weren't so sticky.[break][break]
Kaiden scratched at his cheek embarrassingly as Kyoko questioned him, "I actually couldn't do any of that up until a few seconds ago." he yawned. Why'd this have to go down when he was exhausted? It was definitely going to give everyone the wrong first impression. [break][break]
"You're really worried about your suit?" Kaiden asked, looking slightly irritated as he turned to face the blonde newcomer. "I- he yawned again, "I hope you're not serious." Kaiden had more to say but the gunmen interrupted him.[break][break]
Kaiden turned immediately to the building behind him once they began to shoot, "Shit, this isn't good." without thinking, his body moved towards the office. The young hero stopped in his track, however, at the sight of Kyoko flying past him. In what seemed like one swift motion, she caught the falling civilians and momentarily halted the building's collapse.[break][break]
"Hell yeah, way to go racoon-girl!" he shouted, pumping his fist in the air with a smile. "We'll put these bastards down quickly!" Kaiden cracked his knuckles and turned to the gunmen with an irritated and tired frown. "Time to bring the pain." he made a beeline towards the closest thug. Moving faster than normal, Kaiden closed the distance between them in seconds and slammed his shoulder into the man.[break][break]
The man went flying into a telephone pole with enough force to send cracks running up it. "Enhanced speed and strength too?" there was a lot more to this power than he thought. The thugs didn't give Kaiden time to think about what else he was capable of, however. They opened fire on Kaiden's position shortly after he tackled their comrade.[break][break]
Instinctively he tried to lunge out of the way but his exhaustion got the better of him. A stray bolt of plasma slammed into his left shoulder and a searing pain shot through his arm.[break][break]
"Fuck that stings!" he winced and ducked behind a piece of rubble. He was definitely going to have a gnarly burn scar on his shoulder when this healed. "Hey racoon-girl!" Kaiden called out, "Random question but how are you doing that thing with the planets? I tried to do it earlier but it didn't work. I feel like I'm missing something." weird time to Q&A but he needed to know.[break][break]

Kaiden yawned as he strolled down the street towards his favorite coffee shop. The middle of the afternoon and he was already exhausted. Not that he was surprised, Kaiden had been pushing himself pretty hard this past week. Staying up late and training until the crack of dawn.
[break][break]
Thank god for coffee. Kaiden wouldn't have been able to function without it. He'd practically been living off the stuff for the past week and a half. Which probably wasn't great for him, but neither was passing out in the middle of the day. [break][break]
He couldn't have been more than a block away from the shop when his phone vibrated. The message from Aegis flashed across the screen as he pulled it from his pocket. Not that Kaiden needed the alert with the sudden wave of bystanders that came barreling at him. Side-stepping out of their way, Kaiden took off in the direction they were coming from. [break][break]
Arriving shortly after her, Kaiden watched as Kunoichi-Chan disabled one of the assailants with her powers. Quickly, he linked his current feeling of exhaustion to Kyoko's plant manipulation. A risky move but with the other gunmen opening fire it was his only choice. Kaiden reached out with one of his hands and attempted to ensnare one of the gunmen in vines.[break][break]
What he got instead was a concentrated blast of green-energy from his palm that slammed into one of the firing gunmen. Kaiden watched the man go flying into a nearby building. "Wow." he said tiredly and moved up to Kyoko's right, "Plant stuff and energy beams? What an impressive power." Kaiden gave a quick smile before becoming serious. "Before we kick your assess, are you sure you don't want to surrender?" [break][break]
"Oh and whose bright idea was it to meet on a fucking roof? he continued, "Because they shouldn't be in charge picking the meeting spots anymore. Stairs are a bitch and not everyone can fly." he finished with a sigh.
Confident and dripping with charm, Kaiden isn't afraid to put himself out there and socialize with his peers. His captivating smile and jovial nature can make it quite easy for others to approach him.[break][break]
What Kaiden sees as tenacity others might view as stubborn perseverance. Once he sets his mind to something, Kaiden refuses to give up until he's completed his goal. Even if it means trying and failing a hundred times, eventually he'll find a way to succeed.[break][break]
Kaiden can't afford to fall victim to his fears and doubts. That isn't to say he doesn't have them - because he certainly does. He merely possesses the strength of character needed to move forward despite his fears.[break][break]
Idle hands make for fretful minds, or so the saying goes. If there is daylight in the day, you're likely to find Kaiden doing something productive. Kaiden likes to keep busy and can't sit still for long. Some might even call him a workaholic.[break][break]
A kindhearted person with a great deal of empathy, Kaiden is quick to jump into action when someone needs help. It doesn't matter who it is, a complete stranger, a friend, family, or his worst enemy. If someone is in trouble, he'll offer whatever aide he can - regardless of if it's inconvenient for him.
Kaiden is the son of Heartbeat and Replica, two pro heroes that operated in Wayport City. Both of his parents retired shortly after learning that his mother was pregnant. When he was born Kaiden displayed no obvious signs of mutation. Something that persisted for years and allowed him to have a normal childhood.
Neither of his parents made any attempt to hide their pasts from him growing up. Most of Kaiden's bedtime stories were just retellings of his parents heroics. Painted in a fantastic and kid-friendly light that he couldn't help but be captivated. Hearing those tales had a profound effect on Kaiden. Even when he was old enough to understand they were exaggerated. They still shaped his view on what being a hero meant.
For someone with no powers being a hero was easier said than done. So he aspired for lesser forms of heroics. Things like an helping an old lady cross the street or rescuing a cat from a tree. They were small but over time he thought it would all add up to something. At the end of the day, however, none of it felt like he was doing enough. Helping people felt great but he wanted desperately to do it on a bigger scale.
It was that overwhelming feeling of desperation and a wrong turn on the way home. That gave a fourteen-year-old Kaiden exactly what he'd been longing for. He ended up in the middle of an ongoing fight between a hero and villain. The hero was losing, people were in danger, and Kaiden frantically wanted to help. His mutation triggered, linking his despair to the hero and copying their power. Without even thinking he rushed to help the hero and together they defeated the villain.
That moment changed his life forever and in more ways than one. Suddenly every emotion he felt was amplified to the extreme and he didn't know how to control it. It was so overwhelming that once the rush of the fight left him, he fainted. When he came to in the hospital with his parents at his side. Kaiden was worried and for good reason.
His parents explained what they thought his mutation was. A mixture of his mother's empathic powers and his father's ability to replicate another's power. It would take some time to learn how to control, even with their help, but Kaiden was up for the challenge.
That was four years ago and while Kaiden hasn't completely mastered his mutation. It's at least under his control enough to be used for hero work. Granted, it's more sidekick then hero but that's good enough for him.
By assigning a specific emotion to a super-powered individual that he's come into contact with. Kaiden can mimic that individual's power by focusing on and feeling the emotion he's assigned to them.[break][break]
X To initially copy a power he must be within line-of-sight of it's user. Afterwards, however, the power is his to use regardless of its original users location.[break][break]
X Kaiden's body limits how much of a copied power's strength he can access in order to properly adjust. Running at speeds close to 200 MPH for super speed, lifting two tons with super strength, and being as tough as steel.[break][break]
X He has no choice over what emotion he links to the person. What he's feeling at the time he sees the power used is what he's stuck with.[break][break]
X He cannot have multiple powers linked to the same emotion. Attempting to do so will simply replace the power currently linked with the new one. He is also only able to assign a single emotion to an individual and thus only copy one power from them at a time. [break][break]
X He cannot copy more than three powers at any given time.[break][break]
X Copying a power doesn't give Kaiden knowledge on how to best use it. Any weaknesses associated with power are given to Kaiden as well. If a copied power alters the user's body in any way, then Kaiden's body will mutate in response to the ability. Any sub-powers that a power might have are granted to Kaiden as well.[break][break]
X If Kaiden's unable to balance his feelings it can have disastrous consequences. His powers could stop working, making him vulnerable or worse. They could become unstable, and depending on the copied powers cause widespread destruction.[break][break]
X His emotions are drastically heightened, making everything he feels more intense. This also makes powers that influence emotions particularly potent on him.[break][break]
