"A trickster? If only you knew." Mako thought passively as she continued steering him away. He hadn't seen the playful hit in the arm coming, and it packed a surprising punch for her slight frame. Holding the tears back, Mako forced an amiable smile as his arm throbbed and she graciously accepted his compliments on the band. However, his step faltered mid stride as she mentioned his name. Had she noticed his slip up earlier? did he screw up that fast? god he was a horrible liar. Glancing over at her slight pause, Stockpile was met with her eyes, wide and excited as they stared at him like he was some kind of awesome new pet.
Stockpile's eyes widened for a brief second as he sensed the excitement bubbling up behind her smile. Then, before he was fully prepared, she exploded on him. Stockpile let out a surprised yelp as she took him by the shoulders and began shaking him back and forth, emphasizing every rapid fire question with another thrash. When she paused for breath, Mako stood there dazed. His eyes rolling in their sockets as he swayed in her grip. "N-nani?" he choked out a confused word, momentarily reverting to his native tongue as his brain tried to recover and catch up on all the questions.
Shaking it off, he smiled apologetically. "No, I'm from Kyoto. I'm just in country visiting a friend from school. He's the one that told me about your concert." Making a vague gesture back towards the crowd, Stockpile shrugged. "He's probably around here somewhere." Rubbing the rapidly increasing stiffness in his neck, Mako pretended to look out into the crowd for a person who did not exist.
Pausing as his brain caught up and reminded him of the rest of the rockers questions. Mako turned and made a big deal of checking to make sure no one was listening before leaning in. "There are quite a few monsters and villains in the larger cities, but there are some pretty strong heroes too. I confess there's a part of me that wishes I could do more to help." Smiling broadly, he gave a wink before laughing, and making a self deprecating motion towards his diminished form. "That sort of thing is probably left to the professionals though."
Stockpile's mind was running a dozen directions thinking of a quiet way to deal with this bouncer, when a melodic voice cut through his frantic internal calculations. Glancing over, Mako was surprised to see his mark coming to intercede on his behalf. Half of her words were then immediately lost to him as he took in her appearance from up close. He could be her guest? That was awful kind for a stranger.
As Punk approached and slid an arm around his shoulders, Mako was surprised by the warmth in her smile and words offering to take him to dinner. She was on Aegis watch lists? A brief spot of pink tinging his cheeks at her comments on his diminutive form, Mako glanced down at the way his white sweater and black jeans seemed to hang off of his skeletal frame before nodding and giving a small smile of thanks.
As Punkette led him away from the bewildered bouncer, and towards the back stage area, Mako threw a quick smirk and wink his way before turning his attention back to his new companion. "You're English isnt so good? That ok, I'll try to understand. What's your name?" her voice was light with a good natured humor, and her smile was infectious.
Lowering his voice, Mako made a small apologetic motion with his hands and gave her a mischievous grin before responding with a low voice. "Thank you, but i haven't been wholly truthful. My english is actually fine, i just didnt want to be thrown out by your bouncer. Please forgive my little deception." Smiling and rubbing the back of his head, Stockpile bowed his head apologetically. "my name is Mako T-" he froze momentarily mid introduction, internally panicking. He'd almost given her his real name! "Takahata. Great set, you're very talented." He recovered smoothly. She was surprisingly easy to talk to. Stockpile made a note to watch his words. No matter how easy she was to like, he was on a mission for Aegis, and she was his target.
"America? Are you sure i'm the best fit for the job? Ive never been there." Three days ago, Stockpile questioned his handler over the phone. Standing in his one bedroom apartment, Mako had been doing his morning workout routine when the call came. Apparently Aegis wanted him for an undercover mission overseas. Something about infiltrating a super concert and questioning the lead singer. Only engage if necessary to apprehend. It all sounded like secret spy stuff to him, and despite his nerves and protests, Mako was secretly excited for the opportunity to travel and work in America.
Now here he was. After a few days of traveling, briefings, and learning the layout of the city, stockpile was ready for his mission. Crouched near the entrance to an abandoned subway line, Mako heard the echoing roar of the concerts crowd. Exhaling a nervous breath slowly, Stockpile grabbed the chain and padlock over the gate. His muscles rapidly expanded beneath his white sweater, the fabric stretching to accommodate his new bulk as he squeezed the lock and pulled it clean off the doors. Reverting to his diminutive and almost sickly form, Mako slid the gate open and disappeared down the dark staircase as the sound of screaming crowds and loud rock music echoed off the walls.
Steathily slinking his way into the subterranean stadium, Stockpile took a moment to marvel at the sight before him. Throngs of screaming fans were gathered around a makeshift stage in the center of what he assumed was an old, repurposed, subway terminal. Mako held his breath as the music hit him, the vibration from the speakers rattling his chest as he stood at the base of the stairs. There was so much stimulus in such a short time, but the thing that caught his attention most, was the scantily clad singer leading the band. More importantly, the white flames that encompassed her revealing clothes.
Mako had caught sight of his target, and she was unexpectedly cute. "Hey! How'd you get down here?" A rough voice cut through Stockpile's trance as a burly gentlemen in a black t-shirt pushed his way towards the hero from the sidelines. "Invite only bub!" Holding his skinny hands up in a surrendering gesture. Mako tried his best to appear harmless and innocent. "Im sorry, my english no good, i hear music. Wanting to see show." He layed on the accent thick. Hopefully the guy would dismiss him and leave him to watch the concert. He'd hate to have to break someones arm this early into the infiltration.
leaning against the cool brick wall of the alley. Stockpile was beginning to grow bored already. Just as he was beginning to space out, his comms device crackled to life once more. A new voice rang over the speaker. 'Magic Pixel?' He thought quetly. Mako couldnt place the name, but any company would be appreciated on this stakeout. Preparing to tap his comms and respond, Mako heard approaching footsteps and turned just in time to see a young man approacing him, sandwich in hand.
"Heard you were hungry." the voice was casual, and friendly enough, but Mako only had eyes for that sandwich. At the sight of that long, flaky, hoagie roll, enclosing an assortment of juicy meats and crisp vegetables, Stockpile's mouth immediately began watering. Standing on shaky legs in the alley, his stomach made a clearly audible growl of discomfort. With a weak smile, he raised a hand in greeting to his new favorite companion.
"Starving. Glad you could stop by." He eyed the meal hungrily as MP extended it out to him. Mako gestured to the roll, and then himself. "Is that for me?" He hadn't made a move to grab it yet as he hadnt explicitly been told to, and Mako wasnt trying to step on any toes with his new friends at Aegis, but that didnt stop the mouth watering, or the stomach churning. "We could split it." He offered. Extending a hand out to shake, Stockpile turned away from the museum. "I have a feeling it's gonna be a long, uneventful night anyway."
It was late. The sun had set over the city hours ago, yet still the streets were lit by the constant iridescent glow of countless streetlights and neon shop signs. Late night businesses were open and catering to their various after hours clientele. The noise and bustle of the city never stopped. People laughed and strolled the sidewalk, blind and carefree to the potential dangers that lurked down every alley they passed.
In one such alley, a man stood watch. Yawning widely, Mako Tanazaki, the hero Stockpile, scratched absent-mindedly at the long white cloak that adorned his shoulders. Blinking heavy eyes with dark circles underneath, Mako peered out of the shadows at the building across the street. The metal clasp of his cloak buzzed with electricity as a voice crackled over the hidden communications device Aegis had given him.
"Stockpile, this is HQ. Report your position" The gruff voice commanded his attention as he reached up and clicked the receiver. Sighing heavily, his eyes scanned the dark windows of the museum across the street. After a brief delay, Mako responded to his Aegis handler.
"Stockpile here. I'm in position across from the museum. Watching the entrance like i was told. Nothing yet. Any chance you could bring me a sandwich?" His stomach rumbled loudly as if on queue. Grimacing, Mako leaned against the brick wall and resigned himself to a long, boring, hungry night.
The museum he was watching had just recieved a shipment of rare gems for a new exhibit opening later that week. It was a tempting target for your standard array of villains and crooks looking to make a name for themselves and get rich quick. Coincidentally, that also made it the perfect potential opportunity for a new hero to build some reputation. Hence, Aegis had decided to preemptively dispatch one of their newest heroes for a little added security.
Keeping half an eye on the building, Mako stifled another yawn as he leaned by his post. It wasnt flashy, but it was part of the job. The museum had its own security he knew, and from what he had gathered in the briefing, it was pretty sophistocated stuff. He doubted anyone would make a play for the gems, but he'd be here just in case.
Supremely unmotivated, Mako can be a tad difficult to work with. He prefers to spend his time relaxing and sleeping rather than out interacting with society. Not to say he hates the world, he just isn't really that interested in the social aspects of it. [break][break]
As the Hero Stockpile, Mako believes in the good in people and wants to preserve it. He's brave in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, and loyal to the end to those few he calls friend. [break][break]
Highly intelligent, Stockpile is able to calculate odds and percentages in his head in an instant. The nature of his abilities require him to know how much power is needed for any given situation. However, his high intellect makes him overly calculating and logical in most ordinary aspects of his life. Those who interact with Mako may find his sarcastic humor and dry personality off putting and insensitive, but he means well.
Mako Tanazaki was born a seemingly ordinary child in the Kyoto region of Japan. Highly intelligent from a young age, Mako excelled at school but had difficulty relating to his classmates. His intellect removed him from society and caused him to come off as cold, calculated, and rude in some cases. This left him a lonely child without many friends.[Break][break]
When he hit 16 years old, Mako's life changed. He began to experience a weird ability to funnel his own physique away to almost nothing. The phenomenon frightened his family, who thought his shriveled form was a sign of some grave illness. However, he soon learned that the powers went both ways. In the same way he funneled his strength away, he discovered he could tap into what he stored, multiplying his physical potential many times over for brief moments. [break][break]
After years of practice mastering his strange mutated gifts, Mako decided it was time to find them a real purpose. With top marks in university, a whole world of possibilities opened up for him. Poring over potential job opportunities, Mako decided to move to Tokyo and apply for a job with the city's police force. He hoped to use his abilities and skills to protect the weak and better society. However, Mako soon found the bureaucracy of government justice to be tedious and often times ineffective at thwarting the wrongs of the world. He admired the heroes of Aegis for their freedom to truly solve crimes. [break][break]
His frustration with civilian justice came to a head at the age of 23 when he received a call from home. His mother had been shopping In town when an unnamed Villain decided to make his debut with a mass hostage situation at the market square. The resulting stand off with local authorities resulted in widespread collateral damage, and his mother's spine was crushed under falling debris. She would never walk again. [break][break]
That night, Stockpile was born. In a pieced together disguise of leftover Halloween costumes, Mako ran home to Kyoto. He swore revenge on the man that crippled his mother, and all those that threatened the peace of those like her. Stockpile announced himself to the world. His invitation letter from Aegis came a month later. [break][break]
Stockpile has the mutant ability to store potential within his body. Specifically physical potential. Practically applied, this allows him to spend some time in a weakened state in order to save that energy for later use. There is no limit to how much energy he can store or how much of the stored energy he can use at a time. This makes the upper limits of his strength and speed hard to specify, as they are theoretically limitless if only for a brief moment.[break][break]
X - He is always drawing from a finite pool of stockpiled energy, and depending on how much he's using, it can deplete rapidly. The higher stockpile multiplies his power, the faster he burns through his reserves. Without any stored power, He's just a normal man.[break][break]
Superhuman Speed: Stockpile can multiply his own speed of movement, agility, and reflexes exponentially. Stockpile's base, unaltered max speed is 20mph. When storing 50% speed, his max drops to 10 mph.[break][break]
Mechanically, after spending 5 posts at 10mph max speed, stockpile can spend the next 5 at 30mph max speed. Or 1 post at 70mph max speed[break][break]
X -This is only possible while he has potential speed saved up. In order to be 50% faster for a set time, he must spend an equal amount of time 50% slower. [break][break]
Superhuman Strength: Stockpile can multiply his own physical strength exponentially. His base lifting strength is 200lbs, and his base striking force is 250 psi. While storing 50% power, these maxes drop to 100lbs lift, and 125psi strike.[break][break]
Mechanically, if Stockpile spends 5 posts at 100lbs strength, he can spend 5 posts at 300lbs, or 1 post at 600lbs. [Break][break]
X - This is only possible while he has strength saved up. In order to be 50% stronger for an hour, he must spend an hour being 50% weaker. [break][break]
Superhuman Regeneration: Stockpile can multiply his own self regeneration and healing exponentially. His normal regeneration is about a week for most minor injuries. To a month for major. Storing regeneration is difficult. Extending his recovery to 2 weeks for minor and 2 months for major. Once stored, he can recover from most minor injuries in a few days, and major ones in a couple weeks. [break][break]
X - this is only possible while he has regeneration saved up. This is the most difficult thing for him to save up, as healing faster requires spending time healing slower. He must spend long periods of time being sickly, anemic, and often times slightly injured, in order to save enough healing factor to be of significant use.[break][break]
Mako has a thorough understanding that his abilities can only multiply preexisting strengths. So as such, he has spent years training his body to the absolute peak of human fitness. Because after all, 1000% of zero is still zero.[break][break]
In his early days of amateur hero escapades, stockpile quickly found out being stronger and faster didn't mean anything if you didn't know how to fight. So, he signed himself up for some self defense classes to hone his combat prowess. However, He doesn't always attend, and his fighting skills are still sub optimal.[break][break]
