How long had it been since he'd come to a human settlement this large? The towering buildings in the distance shone so brightly that even his senses couldn't miss them, the vibrations caused by both people and their machines hummed throughout the air despite the relative quiet of the area he had wandered into. It had been pure curiosity that drove the aqua creature into the quiet depths of the city's, Wayport's; upper ridges- albeit he didn't actually know where he was, only that the voices he'd passed by earlier rippled with enough information to give him the name of the city itself. It was so strange, the sheer contrast from his current settings to the one constantly vibrating his way. The rainbow hues of his 'vision' creating waves throughout the sheet he'd put around himself.
[break][break]
He so desperately wished to venture there, to discover the mind-songs of those that repelled the night; but his wisdom had kept him from strolling down to where the machines roared their smog. The closest he could get to this nearly sleepless wonder had been the only place he could find with a soft humming, a quaint yet relaxing quiet amongst the smaller human dens and their peculiar little hoarding caves. Only once had he found, and sought out; a human who'd strolled down the streets- alas it only ended with them shouting their panic both mentally and physically, running off before Cith could soften his mind to speak.
[break][break]
A pity. Truly.
[break][break]
The loneliness was creeping on him and so far, he'd found it extraordinarily difficult to get close to the infamous outer-worlder's spot. Um... grave? Oh he couldn't quite recall what that popular little tourist attraction was... Which made it all the more saddening to find it completely surrounded by the sleepless masses. It made him miss the old days where humans once lived much simpler lives. He even missed the darkness that would surround their homes, that now replaced by street lamps that glittered off his hide and horns. The gems that fluctuated with his power felt brighter to him even against his familiarity of them.
[break][break]
He might've frowned if he'd had the face for it... or if he found this inconvenience irritating in the first place. He did not. All he could feel was the silent wonder, the hungry curiosity that had him lingering toward the homes with their lights still on despite the clocks hitting past twelve- or so he'd gathered by one naughty teenager who he'd caught sneaking out their window. Thankfully they didn't seem to notice the seven-foot deer, add five more with the antlers; but that was probably for the best if it meant less trouble for him while he figured his way around.
[break][break]
That was the truth of it though, wasn't it? Through all his wandering, trotting up and down these maze-like paths and the odd moments of wakefulness compared to the soft buzz of slumber; he'd gotten himself turned around at one point. Probably after trying to follow the teen as stealthily as he could till they vanished via a car zooming away. That was his first mistake- letting his subject escape him before he remembered to probe their mind to place himself within that mental map of his. Of course, he didn't. And now he was trying to figure out where he was, where he was going, and how many more of these enslaved canines would bark at him (most ended up just whining when he tapped their minds to be quiet) whenever he'd pass by. The cats merely stared at him from their feline parties and thankfully the birds were all asleep.
[break][break]
Still, sometime in the future he really needed to figure out how to hide himself like the spirits did. Perhaps bending perceptions? Oh but what if he were to damage those around him..? Hm... That would be no good. A disguise perhaps? Of one of those vehicles- oh but he couldn't make the sounds they did... At least all this free time would let him ponder until something hit his mental web.
[break][break]
Silently, cautiously; Cith focused on the approaching signature. His head still staring straight ahead, as if his odd eyes could actually see; while he tracked them without contact. His mental shields always in place, he had both a mind to hide and follow this stranger or to speak with them like a proper civilized being. Now that was the dilemma wasn't it? Safety or desire?
[break][break]
...
[break][break]
Desire.
[break][break]
Without moving, the alien being stood his ground. Waiting, watching- noting how the other being was coming toward him. Another corner and they'd find themselves right next to this monstrous deer if they hadn't noticed his horns glowing softly past the hedge walls he'd been trying to follow. A dog whined in a yard nearby as his mental powers fluctuated, trying to fold in on itself to soften the blow for when he'd reach out to touch their mind. Albeit his feather-light touch would still echo like someone grabbing a stranger's arm but at least he tried to not outright pummel their senses.
[break][break]
He wanted to wait till they saw him. At least then, he could speak without them fleeing out of his range (assuming they weren't just that fast). His yearning only wished for some courage from the strange before he'd turn to face them. It wasn't like it was easy to look non-threatening, he couldn't shrink down nor could he throw up a veil to show himself as something other then the blade adorned deer that he was. All he could hope for was that he could at least whisper to them before they fled, if they fled; and if not- perhaps they could ease the loneliness that crept into him once more.
