[attr="class","yuki-text"] ”So! We’ll start from the large oak and move down the park! It’ll take some teamwork, but I know we can get Liberty Park spick and span in no time!” [break][break]
For such a loud and passionate voice, the person situated at the front of the modest crowd sure had a small stature. [break][break]
Kyoko Hamasaki -- known more commonly as Kunoichi-Chan amongst the general public -- stood before the gathering of nature enthusiasts. The fluffy-eared tanuki girl was decked in her hero suit and proudly puffed out her chest. Kunoichi was a new hero. However, slowly but surely, she was gaining a bit of traction within Wayport City specifically with young adults and children. If they weren’t impressed by her genuine love for the preservation of nature, they were enamored by her accent and cute appearance. It was fascinating to see a small animal-girl fighting alongside other full-fledged Aegis agents. [break][break]
Flattered by this new surge of popularity, Kyoko knew that it was a perfect opportunity for her to use it as a platform for advocacy. It was why she really joined Aegis, anyway; to fulfill her dream of restoring earth’s wildlife. [break][break]
So, on this cool Sunday afternoon, Kyoko had gathered many like-minded civilians to help clean up the park after some recent villainous building damage. [break][break]
Hearing Kunoichi’s voice, the gathering dispersed, many with trash bags and picks in hand. They began to pick up trash and clear out rubble. [break][break]
For a moment, the navy-haired lass stood on the grass with her hands on her hips. She managed to crack a content grin. Maybe she could get used to this hero gig! [break][break]
”A-Ah…” [break][break]
Kyoko’s body suddenly shuddered. A sudden ring resonated through her head. She lowly groaned with displeasure. [break][break]
A moment later, her nose bled. It was minor, but it was still blood. [break][break]
”Gah… We really ought to clean all of this quickly. The trash is affecting the surrounding nature adversely,” Kyoko muttered to herself, wiping her nose quickly with the hopes no one witnessed her little show of weakness. [break][break]
[attr="class","monlyrics2"]my blood is worse than your blood
[attr="class","monbody2"]Behind Kyoko and slightly to her left, another figure, straight-backed and nearly motionless. He was more than content to let the kid outline their plan of action; public speaking hadn't been his forte even before the accident. Besides, who knew how the crowd would take orders from a known meta-criminal, even a retired one. He could already see flashes of it now, surreptitious whispers and curious glances, wondering if it was really him. He'd endured worse than this before. This he could take.[break][break]
What really got under his skin, or what was left of it, was the mission itself. Not even a month and they were already putting him on grunt work. Adam Abel, alias The Creature, a glorified garbage man. He'd almost feel insulted if he wasn't sure this was some kind of test, trying to confirm his commitment, if he really meant what he'd said and that this wasn't some kind of elaborate ruse. He huffed silently and peeled away from Kyoko and the assembled civilians, his own bag and pick tucked under his arm. He couldn't fault them for not trusting him but he figured the fact that he hadn't run off with millions of dollars worth of lab equipment should be proof enough.[break][break]
Once he'd gotten some distance from the others, Adam hunched forward, his blue-green chitin rippled. His shoulders bulged outwards, writhing like nests of vipers under his skin. Then a wrenching, a wet tearing and cracking sound, and a second pair of arms slid outward from hidden flaps in his super suit, hanging just above the original two and glistening wetly in the dappled sunlight. Adam said a silent thanks to Aegis' design division. With a flex of his newly-acquired limbs, he got to work, spearing wayward trash with his lower hands and moving aside debris with his upper. If he was going to be a garbageman, he'd decided, he was going to be the best damn garbageman there was.[break][break]
Adam went about proceedings swiftly and with mechanical efficiency. Every bit of litter accounted for, every hunk of rubble cleared out of the paths. Frankly, he mused, he could probably do this all himself. Aegis was just wasting its time with volunteers. He was about to admit himself a self-satisfied chuckle at the thought when something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. Kiyoko, absurd ninja getup and all, gone still and shuddering. He was by no means an expert on whatever it was that she was, but that didn't strike him as a good thing. Part of him was inclined to leave her to it, keep his mind on his work and let her take care of her own problems. It wasn't like she was his responsibility.[break][break]
Before the other part of him could formulate a counter-argument, he was already in motion, picking his way through the mess towards her. He moved with urgency, his motions almost unnaturally fluid, a rotoscoped image of himself. Adam was at her side in seconds, placing one of his empty hands firm on her shoulder.[break][break]
"Everything alright, kid? You look a little..." He trailed off, searching for the right word. "Distracted."

[attr="class","yuki-text"] ”A-Ah!” [break][break]
Kyoko could hear him, smell him, even feel him approaching from the vibrations through the soil, yet as his flesh met the pelt of her shoulder, her fur stood at its end. She was just so riled up by the fact that someone might see her weakness. [break][break]
Hesitantly, she turned around to lock eyes with the man behind her. Her tail swished around her anxiously. ”U-Um, I’m just fine. It’s nothing to worry much about. It just happens sometimes.” [break][break]
However, her eyes widened a bit when she realized that this man’s appearance was awfully… Unusual. With discolored skin and claws for nails, clearly, if he were human, he must have been a mutant of some sort. Not too dissimilar to herself. [break][break]
Then it came to Kyoko. She remembered from the attendance list that another Aegis member would be attending this meet-up as well. He must have been the one. [break][break]
She shook her head and bowed, apologizing profusely. [break][break]
”I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare. I’m just not familiar with your face,” Kyoko explained, bangs of downy hair dangling off her forehead from her bent position. Whatever confidence the tanuki-girl once had a few moments ago had dissolved away, now replaced with a shy and complaisant demeanor. It was much easier to hold onto your confidence when you were going about something you loved. [break][break]
Gaze still modestly lowered, Kyoko offered out her hand for an amiable handshake. [break][break]
”Kunoichi-Chan,” She introduced, ”But you can just call me Kyoko. I’m very grateful to see another Aegis member helping out in this cause.”
[attr="class","monlyrics2"]my blood is worse than your blood
[attr="class","monbody2"]He pulled his hand away as quickly as he'd laid it on her shoulder, taking a step back to give the girl a little more space. The last thing he wanted was to get up in her space. People generally didn't like getting too close to him and he could hardly blame them. Even the kid looked shocked now that she had a better look at him. She at least had the presence of mind to apologize. [break]
Take a good look, kid, he thought, bitterly. You're one of the lucky ones.[break]
"Relax." He grumbled, glad that his lack of pupils made it hard to tell when he was rolling his eyes. "You're not the first person to stare, and you aren't going to be the last. I'm used to it." He had to imagine she'd gotten her fair share of looks. Some kind of mutation, it looked like, possibly animal-based. He'd have to poke through her file back at HQ when they were done, but there were more immediate concerns. Adam took the offered hand at gave it a single, firm shake before immediately pulling away.[break]
"Adam Abel. The Creature, if you prefer codenames. It's a pleasure to meet you, Kiyoko. Nice to know I'm not the only one working the community service beat." Even if it sounded like she'd volunteered instead of being shanghai'd into it. Ah, the optimism of youth. She couldn't have been older than eighteen or nineteen, by the looks of her. Cripes. He understood the necessity of Aegis' "youth outreach" project, but the reality of it still left a bad taste in his mouth. Nobody that young deserved this life.[break]
"Are you gonna be alright on your own over here? My section's almost done and it seems like you could use an extra hand or two." He indicated the assembled trash and rubble with a nod, then the arms dangling off his shoulders. "No pun intended." As much as he loathed the idea of being a babysitter on top of a garbageman, Kiyoko didn't look nearly as fine as she said she was, and the idea of leaving her to her own devices was feeling less heroic by the second.[break]

[attr="class","yuki-text"] At least he didn’t seem offended. As he introduced himself, Kyoko rose her gaze, meeting him eye-to-eye. ”Mister Adam, then,” She said, acknowledging his seniority. She managed to spread a docile smile across her lips. [break][break]
”It’s not all too bad, I think,” Kyoko began, referring to the task at hand here at Liberty Park, ”It’s better than doing other Aegis busy work, and I’m happy to say I actually quite a lot about what we’re doing here. The planet could really use some extra help nowadays,” The teen replied, green eyes gazing back at the volunteers picking up the nearby litter. ”I just wish Aegis had more time to commit to environmental awareness, but I suppose crimefighting is at the top of their list. I don’t blame them; it’s for good reason.” [break][break]
When Adam inquired if she needed help, Kyoko blushed a little. Her team -- and she herself! -- had been moving slower than the rest. It would be silly to decline, even if she was embarrassed to accept the help. [break][break]
”I would appreciate it, sir,” The girl nodded, again facing towards the task at hand. It was high time to get a move on it. [break][break]
Taking a deep breath, Kyoko closed her eyes and concentrated on the environment around her. Mentally, she got into contact with the surrounding plant life. She commanded the root below her feet to jut out of the soil and sharpen, piercing through various clumps of trash all while avoiding harming any of the civilians nearby. They extended and began to move like snakes, easing their way towards a nearby trashcan to deposit the rubbish. [break][break]
”I’m new here-- To Aegis and America,” She spoke though her eyes were still shut. ”Sorry if I seem flustered. I guess this whole superhero gig can get a little overwhelming at times. It’s just a lot to take in at once. Perhaps you might understand...”
